Jamaica’s Under-17 Reggae Boyz became the first national football team to make it to three World Cups after delivering a 3-1 defeat to Canada in the final game of their Group G Concacaf Qualifier earlier today.
The young Reggae Boyz got off to a good start, scoring through Jahmarie Nolan in the 37th minute. Lamone Lyle, who assisted Nolan’s opener, doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, before Canada made things interesting with Van Parker’s 71st-minute effort.
A second bookable offence for Canada’s Vicente Lorenco in the 85th minute throttled their comeback attempts and Jamaica benefitted from their numerical advantage in the 90th+2 to seal the win.
The result meant Jamaica topped Group G to become the first men’s team to qualify for a World Cup in 15 years.
The U17 World Cup takes place in Qatar in November.
Jamaica first qualified for an under-17 World Cup in 1999, repeating the feat in 2011.
