Rising middle-distance talents Kymarni Newton and Najeeb Kelly delivered outstanding performances in the Boys Under-17 800m on Sunday at the CARIFTA Games.
Competing in separate semifinal heats on April 5, Newton produced a composed run to secure second place, clocking a personal best of 1:58.25. Kelly also impressed, winning his semifinal while recording a personal best time of 2:00.72.
Both athletes demonstrated excellent race execution, maintaining patience and strategic positioning in the early stages before unleashing strong finishing kicks to secure their places among the top contenders.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Athletic Association praised their performances, stating, “Kymarni Newton and Najeeb Kelly have both advanced to the finals for the Boys U17 800m. They both ran their race with new PBs. Our unstoppable athletes are leaving it all on the track. We are Team Unstoppable SKN.”
With the final set for today, both Newton and Kelly will return to the track to compete against the Caribbean’s top young middle-distance athletes.
