Sri Lanka Women recorded a 14-run victory against the West Indies Women to clinch their One-Day International series with one match remaining at the National Stadium in Grenada.
Jannillea Glasgow’s effort with the bat fell just short as she struck an even half-century, her second of the series, but West Indies Women were dismissed for 194 in 48 overs in pursuit of Sri Lanka’s total of 208 in 47.1.
The win gave Sri Lanka a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The West Indies’ top order was no match for Sri Lanka’s spinning trio of Sugandika Kumari, Inoka Ranaweera, and Dewmi Vihanga.
Vihanga claimed the wicket of captain and star batter Hayley Matthews for 13, and four balls later, without adding a run, Kumari had Qiana Joseph caught for 16 to leave the score 30 for 2.
Shemaine Campbelle and Stafanie Taylor tried to rebuild the innings with a 44-run partnership for the third wicket, but Ranaweera had Taylor caught behind for 27.
Chinelle Henry made just four before Kumari got her second wicket and Ranaweera had Campbelle stumped for 30. By this time, the West Indies Women were in serious trouble.
Deandra Dottin was then disputably given out for obstructing the field after catching a ball with her glove that bounced off her bat, and three runs later, Aaliyah Alleyne was dismissed after just one run with the score 119 for 7.
After scoring a maiden ODI half-century in the opener, Glasgow added 27 runs with Shawnisha Hector and then a further 45 with Afy Fletcher to revive the run chase and give the home side some hope of a miraculous victory.
With West Indies requiring 17 runs from 21 balls, Ranaweera then claimed the crucial wicket of Fletcher for 20.
Three runs later, Captain Chamari Athapaththu wrapped up the innings by dismissing Campbell for the top score of 50 off 69 balls, which included five boundaries.
Kumari with 3-38 and Ranaweera with 3-44 led the way for Sri Lanka, while Vihanga took 2-33.
Earlier, the visitors were sent in to bat, and the West Indies bowlers did well to restrict them to a below-par total after having a strong start.
Despite losing opener Hasini Perera early, Athapaththu, who made 32, Harshitha Samarawickrama (35), and Player-of-the-Match Vishmi Gunaratne, who made 58 off 66 balls with five fours, put them in a good position at 107 for 2.
Afy Fletcher bowled Samarawickrama to see Sri Lanka slip to 166 for five in the 36th over.
The West Indies grabbed their last five wickets, with Sri Lanka reaching their eventual total that proved to be enough.
For the Windies women, Ramharack (3-26), Fletcher (2-40), and Matthews (2-44) were the main destroyers.
