By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) announced on Tuesday that four standout players from Belize’s Senior Men’s National Team have been invited to a professional training trial with Alebrijes de Oaxaca, a club in Mexico’s MX Expansion League.

Freybin Pagoada, Jaheim Mena, Deshawon Nembhard, and Izon Gill are set to participate in a 21-day trial from June 17 to July 6, 2025, in Oaxaca, Mexico. Notably, Nembhard—who is based in the United States—will travel from there to join the squad. This marks a significant step forward in their football careers and could open the door to professional opportunities abroad.
This opportunity has come through the growing Mexican connection fostered by the Senior Men’s National Team’s coaching staff, led by Daniel Bartolotta and his son, Diego. The Bartolotta duo has brought a renewed emphasis on international networking and strategic partnerships—connections that are now bearing fruit for Belizean players.
“We wish them all the best as they represent Belize on an international stage,” the FFB said in a social media post, celebrating the breakthrough moment for the athletes and the broader football community.
Alebrijes de Oaxaca competes in Liga de Expansión MX, a league recognized for nurturing talent and acting as a bridge to top-tier professional football in Mexico.
