–Four City clubs set to challenge for honours
SEVERAL trophies and medals are on offer for top finishers in this year’s Torpedo Swim Meet scheduled for today at the Toucan Mall Swimming Pool at Amelia’s Ward, in Linden.
This meet has 47 races carded for the day, with swimmers being given an hour’s period to warm up, from 08.00hrs to 09.00hrs, when the actual competition gets underway.
Torpedo Club’s top swimming official is former national swimming champion Ms. Mary Chung-Phillips, who said this meet will give their swimmers an opportunity to compete at home, ahead of two upcoming meets later in the month, and in July in Georgetown.
It is also being used to garner much-needed funds to offset expenses for the swimmers from the bauxite mining town.
She said much-needed sponsorship was given by John Trim, an overseas-based Linden resident now living in Canada, with assistance from his brothers Avery and Bunny among others.
Linden swimming fans are encouraged to support this annual event being staged during the Linden Town Week activities marking its 55th anniversary as a town. (Joe Chapman)
