Kittitian pacer Jahzara Claxton has secured a position in the 15-member West Indies Women’s squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of England from May 21 to June 8, 2025. Cricket West Indies (CWI) made the announcement on Monday.
At just 19, Claxton takes the place of Jamaican all- rounder Chinelle Henry in a squad that will play three T 20 Internationals and three One- Day Internationals at various venues in England. Her selection represents a significant milestone in her budding cricket career and highlights the increasing talent emerging from St. Kitts and Nevis.
The team, led by captain Hayley Matthews, consists of a mix of experienced players and rising talents, with Claxton’ s selection reflecting CWI’ s ongoing commitment to nurturing youth in women’ s cricket.
Miles Bascombe, the Director of Cricket, voiced confidence in the chosen squad, labelling the tour as “an important opportunity to reassert themselves on the international stage.”
“The T 20 Blaze competition has come at a timely moment, allowing many of our senior and emerging players to remain match- fit and enhance their skills in a competitive setting,” he stated.
Head Coach Shane Deitz shared similar views, emphasising that the England tour is the perfect avenue to exhibit West Indies cricket’ s characteristic flair and resilience.
“It’ s now time to transition to international cricket, deliver a strong performance, and give our supporters something to celebrate back in the Caribbean,” Deitz remarked. “Jahzara has demonstrated significant potential, and this tour will be an excellent opportunity for her continued growth.”
Claxton has excelled in recent regional competitions and continues to motivate young athletes in St. Kitts and Nevis. Fans and cricket enthusiasts across the Federation are celebrating her inclusion.
