ANDREW CAVENAGH is reportedly set to take charge of Rangers’ manager hunt as the search for a new gaffer reaches the final stages.
SunSport understands Ibrox chiefs are hopeful of getting their appointment over the line by the end of this week, with Davide Ancelotti, Russell Martin, Steven Gerrard and Brian Priske all in the frame.
We told you last night how former Southampton boss Martin will hold further talks with Rangers in the coming days.
Ancelotti Jr, 35, is also a leading contender but he is believed to be enjoying a sun-kissed break with his family after his wife shared snaps of him enjoying a trip abroad.
The Daily Record claim American health tycoon Cavenagh will meet both candidates face-to-face to help make the final decision.
Chief executive Patrick Stewart, sporting director Kevin Thelwell and 49ers technical director Gretar Steinsson have been leading the search up to this stage.

But it’s said Cavenagh will fly across the Atlantic to get involved and will have a key role in choosing the right boss to take the club forward.
Cavenagh is the leading man behind the 49ers Enterprises in Govan. .
He was in the directors’ box at Ibrox for the final home Premiership game of the season against Dundee United earlier this month.
Former Rangers and Scotland defender Martin remains high on the shortlist despite links with the Leicester City job.
He is believed to be a frontrunner to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy but the Dutchman has not been sacked as of yet.
It would be seen as a massive gamble by Gers’ San Francisco 49ers chiefs should they appoint the man sacked by Southampton in December.
Ex-title winning gaffer Gerrard is still understood to be in contention.
However, sources close to the Liverpool legend have suggested he’s planning on spending time with his family in the coming months as he’s due to become a grandfather for the first time.
