Caymanian bodybuilder Damenian Maxwell has completed a successful return to the sport, posing his way to victory during the FMG international competition in Gold Coast, Australia on 5 April.
The event, which serves as a world championship qualifier, featured Maxwell taking first in the men’s fitness category.
“I’m still buzzing from my win,” Maxwell told the Compass.
It’s a triumph Maxwell credits to his hard work in the gym and his wife Jaimi-Leigh Jenner, who inspired him to make the return after taking a hiatus following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s been a long road back,” he said. “I took a break during COVID to focus on family, my career and business.
“My wife Jaimi and I, we have two amazing kids, and our focus is on them, but what really reignited that fire was Jaimi. She competed at the FMG Dallas Show last year and she did extremely well … and that just inspired me and motivated me to get back on stage.”
In addition to medals and trophies, the win also earned Maxwell pro status. He elaborated on what the victory meant to him.
“To win at this level after coming back, means the world,” he said, “but it means even more to represent Cayman on an international stage.”
