The quest for new PwC under-16 basketball champions is under way as 10 teams hit the courts in the 2025 league.
Collin Anglin, president of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association, told the Compass that the league has been progressing well.
Based on current standings, Anglin said that for the boys’ division, SLK Hoods and SLK Blades “seem to be the teams to beat”. However, there is a lot of good talent in the league, he said, adding, “It’s still anyone’s game.”

As for the girls’ division, he says the team to beat right now is Infinity, who are the defending champions, though Women of Valor Courage are close behind.
“Those are definitely the top two teams in the league, and I definitely expect for those two teams to meet each other in the final. But again, [there’s] some great talent being displayed, and we’re just excited that that our kids get to play and continue to pursue their basketball dreams,” he said.
Rounding out the four-team girls’ division are Lady Hammerheads and Women of Valor Fearless while the four other boys’ teams are MSA Tigers, Hoop Dreams, CIS Storm and Shockwaves.
Kadane Hall, assistant chair of CIBA’s competition committee, said that the influence of the PwC-sponsored league has spread beyond the court, making a lasting impact on the community.
“Parents, coaches and volunteers have come out … to support the players, creating a positive and encouraging environment. The league continues to promote youth development, teamwork and leadership, reinforcing basketball as a powerful tool for building future leaders in the Cayman Islands,” he said.
Games are scheduled for Tuesdays at 6:15pm and 7:30pm and Saturdays at 3:30pm, 4:45pm and 6pm at the University College of the Cayman Islands. The league is scheduled to end mid-June.
