By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Premier League of Belize champions Verdes FC are gearing up for their second stint in the Concacaf Central American Cup, but this year’s campaign will be anything but easy. The tournament’s draw, held in Miami, placed Verdes in Group C, where they will face some of Central America’s toughest clubs.
Their opponents include Deportivo Saprissa and CS Cartaginés from Costa Rica, FC Motagua from Honduras, and CA Independiente from Panama. With clubs boasting experience and continental success, Verdes will need to bring their absolute best to advance beyond the group stage.
Verdes will face Honduras’ Motagua once again, a club they previously played in 2023. During that tournament, they competed in Group D against Costa Rica’s Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, Honduras’ Olancho FC, and Panama’s Sporting San Miguelito. Now, they are set for another challenging run, hoping to improve on their past performance.
With powerhouses from Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama, Verdes face a daunting task ahead. However, the Belizean champions are undeterred and are preparing for another international run.
The third edition of the Concacaf Central American Cup will run from July to December 2025. The tournament will not only crown Central America’s club champion but also serve as a qualifier for next year’s Concacaf Champions Cup but also serve as a qualifier for next year’s Concacaf Champions Cup, which features the top teams from across Central America, North America, and the Caribbean.
The tournament features four competitive groups:
- Group A: LD Alajuelense (CRC), Antigua GFC (GUA), CD Plaza Amador (PAN), Alianza FC (SLV), Managua FC (NCA).
- Group B: CS Herediano (CRC), CSD Municipal (GUA), Real España (HON), Sporting San Miguelito (PAN), Diriangén FC (NCA).
- Group C: Deportivo Saprissa (CRC), CS Cartaginés (CRC), FC Motagua (HON), CA Independiente (PAN), Verdes FC (BLZ).
- Group D: Club Olimpia (HON), Club Xelajú M.C. (GUA), Real Estelí FC (NCA), C.D. Águila (SLV), CD Hércules (SLV).
