RANGERS’ decision to appoint Russell Martin will have Celtic “looking over their shoulders”.
That’s the opinion of TalkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham after the Gers took the plunge and made the 39-year-old former Southampton manager the choice to replace Philippe Clement as the next permanent Gers boss.
And Durham was impressed enough by what Martin achieved by guiding Southampton to an unlikely promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs to give the move the green light.
Speaking to Celtic-daft breakfast host Alan Brazil, Martin said: “Listen, he did play for Rangers and by his own admission, he isn’t exactly a Rangers legend.
“He wasn’t brilliant there and only had a few games [17 appearances, scoring one goal].
“It isn’t his playing career at Rangers that has got him the job, but he has an identity, he has a plan.

“I remember it really worked for Southampton in the Championship, I remember they went 25 games unbeaten.
“If you’re talking about levels, maybe Rangers have looked at it and thought he was that good in the championship, he could replicate that in the Scottish leagues and challenge Celtic.
“I personaly think he is going to need some money and I’m not sure that is there at Rangers.
“If he can get players in that suit the style he wants to bring in at Rangers he could have a big impact and Celtic possibly need to look over their shoulders.
“He has all the credentials to be a success at Rangers if he gets those players.”
At that point co-host Gabby Agbonlahor said: “Are you saying they are going to win the league next season?”
Durham replied: “Yeah they’re going to win the lot!”
