By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The William Dawson Peace Cup is set for another weekend as the tournament moves into its second week of competition. Following an exciting opening round in Belize City last Saturday, teams are ready to battle again in Sand Hill and Hattieville.
Recap: Opening Week Victories
The tournament kicked off in style on Saturday, June 7, at Marion Jones Stadium, where three highly contested matches set the tone for an electrifying season.
- Leaders of Tomorrow blanked Ebony Lake FC in a 3-0 victory, with goals from Keron Sutherland (36’), Sanja Pitts Jr (69’), and Devon Augustine (75’).
- Grave Yard FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sand Hill Warriors, courtesy of Raheim Herbert (6’) and Darrison Ramos (82’), while Randy Escobar (24’) equalized briefly for Sand Hill.
- Survivors salvaged a 2-2 draw against Jane Usher FC, with Keiffer Perteau (79’) scoring the late equalizer. Steven Baizar (20’) and Delroy Andrews (77’) had given Jane Usher FC the lead, while Tarique Ciego (14’) opened the score for Survivors.
Named in honour of the late William Dawson, an advocate for youth development through sports, the Peace Cup continues to serve as a platform for displaying young football talent in Belize
