St Mirren Football Club’s assistant manager Brian Kerr said there are just a few minor details to handle with Jamaican international defender Richard King’s passport before he is ready to fully settle in with his new club.
King made the move to the Scottish Premiership from the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) when he signed for St Mirren from JPL champions Cavalier for an undisclosed fee last month.
But with international duty at Jamaica’s recent Concacaf Gold Cup campaign, King’s arrival to Paisley, Scotland had been delayed.
With the delay, the defender will miss out on the club’s preseason camp in Spain.
Kerr explained that King is expected to arrive in Scotland in the coming days, but will need to need to handle a few minor details with his passport before he can settle in with the club.
“Richard’s due to arrive in the country later this week so he’ll miss Spain,” he explained.
“He’s got a few things to sort out with his passport but that’s basic things that we’ll sort out next week. And then over the next two or three weeks, we’ll talk about him.”
Kerr explained there are no worries at the club regarding King’s absence from their preseason camp, as they have been closely following his progress with the Jamaican national team.
The 23-year-old defender featured in all seven of Jamaica’s games over the past three months, tallying an excess of 400 minutes played.
The assistant manager said with his recent run of games, the club is confident he will arrive ready to compete with the squad.
Their priority will be to ensure he settles in well in his new environment as well as the team’s playing style.
“He’s obviously played a lot of games over the last few weeks, so we’re not concerned in nay way, shape of form about his fitness levels.”
Kerr added, “It will just be getting him into our way of doing things.”
St Mirren will return to competitive action in the Premier Sports Cup on July 12 against Arbroath, before kick-starting their Scottish Premiership campaign with a tough outing against defending champions Celtic on August 3.
