BRENDAN RODGERS would love to have more than one Callum McGregor in his squad.
The Celtic skipper is without a doubt one of the manager’s most important players and has been since his first stint at Parkhead.
McGregor was the perfect man to replace legend Scott Brown as club captain when he left the Hoops back in 2021.
But who will take over from the current skipper when he inevitably hangs up his boots in a few years’ time?
Well, some Celtic fans are convinced they’ve found the midfielder’s CLONE after he was replaced by a like-for-like youngster in tonight’s friendly win over Queen‘s Park.
McGregor, 32, started the clash at the City of Stadium in Mount Florida and of course had the armband until he was replaced at half-time, with Stephen Welsh taking over leadership duties.
However, there were a number of fans who thought the retired Scotland international was still on the pitch when the game got back underway for the second half.
They were wrong, though, as he was nowhere to be seen and was in fact replaced by the teenager who occupies the same role as holding midfielder for the B team.
19-year-old Kyle Ure took his place in the side and several punters were left in disbelief by the similarities between the two players.
It looks like the youngster has modelled his game off the 32-year-old and it’s not hard to see why given the skipper’s accomplishments in the game, winning 23 major trophies as a Celtic player.
Reacting to Ure’s performance early on in the second half, one social media user asked: “Who’s the DM that’s Callum McGregor’s clone? It’s uncanny.”
A fellow supporter was quick to reply to inform the puzzled fan it was in fact Ure.
The initial punter wasn’t alone, though, as another fan wrote: “Genuinely thought Calmac was still on. But it’s Kyle Ure.
Tidy wee player. 🍀
Other supporters purely expressed their admiration for the youngster and urged Rodgers to give him more chances this season.
One said: “Get young Kyle Ure into that first team 🍀
Someone else commented: “That Ure looks like some player.”
The teenager has already lifted a trophy as a Celtic captain having led the Under-18s team to the Scottish Cup in 2023.
He’s played over 60 times in the Lowland League and has been a regular in the Uefa Youth League too.
In January he extended his Parkhead contract by a further two years.
