By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2025 National Amateur Inter-District Championship (NAIC) launched into high gear over the weekend with the first leg of the Round of 16 knockout phase. Eight matches across the country delivered a mix of late drama, commanding wins, and tightly contested draws, setting the stage for an electrifying second leg.


Matchday Highlights – July 5–6, 2025
G1 – San Marcos FC 2–0 Calcutta Bulls FC
📍 Victor Sanchez Union Field, Punta Gorda
San Marcos FC kicked off their Round of 16 campaign with a confident 2–0 home win over Calcutta Bulls FC. Marshawn Lozano broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, and Raheem Moya added a second deep into stoppage time (90+5’) to give the hosts a strong advantage heading into the return leg.
G2 – St. Mathews FC 1–1 Sharks FC
📍 Isidoro Beaton Stadium, Belmopan
Brandon Quijano struck early for Sharks (18’), but Alexander Scott responded just after the break (48’) to keep St. Mathews in the hunt.
G3 – Seabulls FC 2–2 Griga Conquerors FC
📍 Ambergris Stadium, San Pedro
Cliford Sanker netted twice (26’, 58’) for Seabulls, but Griga Conquerors clawed back with goals from Tyler Peters (41’) and Aaron Estero (71’) in a pulsating draw.
G4 – Quintas Elite FC 0–4 Survivors FC
📍 Norman Broaster Stadium, San Ignacio
Survivors FC delivered the most dominant performance of the weekend. Devon Augustine (67’ pen), Cion Agustine (82’), Tyriq Ciego (90’), and an own goal by Elton Baiza (39’) gave them a commanding four-goal cushion heading into the return leg.
G5 – San Jose Pumas FC 1–2 Napoles FC
📍 People’s Stadium, Orange Walk
Napoles FC edged San Jose Pumas in a tense encounter. Kyle Thomas opened the scoring in the 35th minute, and Jalen Myers sealed the win from the penalty spot in the 88th. Moses West pulled one back for San Jose in the 70th, keeping the tie alive.
G6 – Sarteneja FC 2–4 Yo Creek United FC
📍 Carolina Football Field, Carolina, Corozal
Yo Creek United’s attacking firepower was on full display. Liam Reyes struck a hat trick (4’, 7’, 73’) and Nazim Aldana added another (50’) to secure a big away win. Sarteneja’s Daniel Grijalva (24’) and Elvin Williams (32’) gave the home side brief hope, but Yo Creek’s early blitz proved decisive.
G7 – Tutbay FC 0–0 Garage FC
📍 Marion Jones Sporting Complex, Belize City
A cagey affair saw both sides cancel each other out in a goalless draw, leaving everything to play for in the return leg.
G8 – Legends FC 2–3 Vikings FC
📍 Victor Sanchez Union Field, Punta Gorda
The visiting Vikings FC surged ahead with early goals from Andres Miranda (7’, 15’) and Jason Pop (23’), but Legends FC fought back through Nigel Quijano (47’) and a penalty from Dejamari Pop (38’), setting up a thrilling second leg.
