HE played alongside the likes of Virgil van Dijk, James Forrest and Scott Brown in Glasgow.
Now he’s ended his football career 10 years on from his Celtic exit following a stint in his homeland over 3,000 miles away, where he played alongside another ex-Hoops star.
Beram Kayal has hung up his boots at the age of 37.
The former Israeli international spent five years at Parkhead after Neil Lennon landed the aggressive midfielder from Maccabi Haifa for a fee of around £1.2million.
He won four league titles and two Scottish Cups during his stint in Glasgow before heading down south to join Brighton in 2015.
Kayal spent a decade in total playing in the UK but his career began and ended in his homeland Israel.
He retires following a stint with Bnei Sakhnin, where he played alongside fellow ex-Hoops star Hatem Abd Elhamed.
He also played with former Dundee United stars Jeando Fuchs and Matthew Cudjoe at the club, along with ex-Hibs midfielder Stephan Omeonga.
Kayal broke the news of his retirement with an emotional post on social media.
He wrote: “Dear football family. Fans, teammates, and coaches, after nearly two decades dedicated to the sport I love, the time has come for me to retire from professional football. It has been an extraordinary journey.
“I will never forget the privilege you gave me in lifting those titles.
“Of course, representing the national team 47 times and scoring memorable goals on the international stage, were unforgettable moments.
“These accomplishments reflect years of dedication, sacrifice, and resilience.
“Football has taken me from Jadeidi-Makr to Glasgow, Brighton, and way beyond.
“Every stadium, every teammate, every fan has shaped who I am today.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to my father and mother – thank you for raising me with values, belief, and relentless encouragement. You were my first coaches, my biggest fans, and my foundation.
“To my wife, your love, strength and unwavering support have been the anchor of my life. Behind every match, every goal, every challenge—| had you. You sacrificed so much for me to live this dream, and I will forever be grateful.
“To my coaches, teammates, clubs, fans, and the incredible people I met along the way-thank you for every lesson, every cheer, every challenge that helped shape the player and man l’ve become.
“This isn’t a goodbye to the game. It’s a new beginning. I’m looking forward to giving back to the next generations, sharing my experience, and staying close to the beautiful game in new ways.
