The cheers erupted at the Ed Bush Stadium on 13 July as Elite Sports Club was officially crowned the 2024/25 Cayman Islands Football Association Premier League champions, receiving their well-deserved trophy and medals after a dominant season.
This triumph marks a significant return to glory for Elite SC – their first premier league title since 2012, earned with a record of 17 wins, one draw and two losses.
The momentous occasion followed a resounding 6-1 victory over Bodden Town Football Club on 5 July at the Ed Bush Stadium to finish at the top of the league table. A final match scheduled for 13 July against the Tigers FC was not played as their opponents forfeited, but the results of that game would not have affected Elite’s first-place standing.
That win against Bodden Town was spearheaded by a sensational hat-trick from Christopher Reeves.
He was joined on the scoresheet by Alexander Jones, Winston Mckennie and Shakur Silburn, each contributing a goal to the impressive tally.
Elite SC captain, Wesley ‘Marceló’ Robinson, told the Compass, “As captain … it’s a great honour and a privilege to play for this club and with the current players on the team. I think it’s a tremendous effort and achievement from the club to be able to come together and achieve our goal of winning the league, and the results have shown all the hard work and dedication put in by everyone involved in the club.”
Robinson highlighted the team’s strategic approach as a key factor in their championship run.
“In terms of winning the league, we went into each and every game with a specific game plan based on the way our opponents play, and that was our biggest strength,” he said.
The club’s success is also attributed to the leadership of coach Dion Brandon and technical director Gregory Ebanks, who have guided the team throughout their impressive season.
