By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In a historic move reflecting the importance of psychological readiness, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) hosted a one-day retreat for the U15 Belize Boys National Team (BBNT) as they prepare to represent Belize at the 2025 CONCACAF U15 Championship in Aruba.
Held under the transformative theme “From Talent to Tenacity,” the retreat marked FFB’s first dedicated mental preparation session for any youth national team. Spearheaded by FFB’s Team Sports Psychologist, Sharon Palacio, the initiative aimed to build emotional awareness and team unity, reinforcing the Federation’s commitment to holistic athlete development.
Mindset Matters
Palacio, whose leadership is driving the Federation’s psychological programming, shared her personal dedication to the team’s growth:
“People can change providing he or she has the strength to conquer oneself. Hence my passion to dedicate my time, patience and experience to our U15 Boys National Team… Working on Mindset Change from Talent to Tenacity,” she said.
Her message resonated through a day of reflections, group exercises, and motivational talks aimed at fortifying the players’ mental resilience before facing elite competition in the region.

Leaders Rally Behind the Team
The retreat drew key figures from Belize’s football leadership and national government, including Minister of Defence and Border Security Oscar Mira, FFB President Sergio Chuc, Vice President Onan McClean, General Secretary Ian Jones, and Executive Member Shane Orio.
Addressing the young athletes, Minister Mira emphasized discipline and integrity, urging them to embody national pride both on and off the field, the FFB said.

Building Complete Athletes
This U15 BBNY workshop signals the FFB’s broader strategy to embed mental strength into all national team programs—a long-overdue investment in Belizean athletes’ psychological development.
As the U15 Boys wrap up their final preparations, the FFB calls on all Belizeans to rally behind the squad.
“Skill starts the journey, but mental strength finishes the race,” the release noted, highlighting the powerful step forward in shaping well-rounded competitors.
Belize to Aruba, With Heart
With the support of fans and mentors alike, the U15 BBNT is not only representing the jewel—they’re redefining what it means to do so with focus, unity, and tenacity. Hopefully, the initiative translates into improved performances.
