Match day one of the Babonneau T20 Cricket League got underway on Sunday afternoon with two exciting fixtures at the Des Barras Playing Field.
In the opening encounter, Cacoa defeated La Guerre by 33 runs in a thrilling, six-laden match.
The fireworks began early after Cacoa put on a dazzling batting show after winning the toss, posting a mammoth 252 for 2 in 20 overs. The opening pair, Jehan Boodha (84 off 35) and Amari Venner (36 off 29), laid the foundation with a scorching 120-run partnership. The onslaught continued with Ryan Goodman (68 off 37) and Sacchin Cepal (43 off 22).
Only Bradley Marquis and Stanley Cherry managed to break through with one wicket each.
La Guerre’s chase got off to a shaky start under tight bowling pressure from Cacoa. However, Stanley Cherry mounted an impressive counterattack, blasting 84 off just 29 balls, supported by Shon Francois, who contributed a lively 41 off 20. Their efforts sparked hope among the crowd but ultimately fell short.
Jervaughn Charles led Cacoa’s attack with three wickets, Jaden Florent and Vishal Singh (2) took two each, and Cepal and Venner one each.
In the second match, Garrand delivered a dominant performance, winning by 113 runs. Batting first, they hammered 260 for 3, leaving Des Barras Pythons stunned. Leading the charge was Zayee Antoine with a scintillating 101 off 46 balls, including two fours and a monstrous 13 sixes. He was well supported by Kyle Adonis (74 off 24) and Gregory John (36 off 38).
Yulieski Gustave, Shakim Jacobie and Jerlanie Joseph shared the three wickets.
Facing a massive target, Des Barras Pythons showed moments of resistance but never truly threatened the target. Yulieski Gustave made a spirited 40 off 20, while Shakim Jacobie chipped in with 25 runs. Garrand’s bowlers held firm, with Zayee Antoine shining again, taking 2 for 23. Skipper Caleb Thomas (2 for 32) and one wicket each from Nathaniel Joseph and Renee Jones sealed the victory.
Des Barras closed their innings at 147 for 6.
The action resumes on Sunday, July 27, when Boguis faces De Barras, and Cacoa takes on Garrand in a highly anticipated rematch.
