CELTIC are leading the race to land a highly-rated starlet from Manchester City.
The Hoops were credited with an interest in the defender, as well as a host of English Championship clubs.
The player in question is Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.
The 19-year old, who turns 20 in November, has been with City since he was eight years old.
The England under-18 cap has worked his way up through the academy and made his first team breakthrough last year.
Simpson-Pusey has enjoyed plenty of success with City’s under-21 side and was named the Premier League 2 player of the year.
He’s also an FA Youth Cup winner.
Simpson-Pusey travelled with City’s first team squad for their pre-season tour in the USA last summer and played AGAINST Celtic.
In October last year, he made his senior professional debut when he came on as a substitute in Man City’s Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham.
Less than a week later, he was handed his first start as City faced Sporting Lisbon in a Champions League clash that ended in a 4-1 defeat.
His Premier League debut came soon after when he started a 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
Simpson-Pusey made six first team appearances across all competitions last season, the latter coming in an 8-0 FA Cup thrashing of Salford back in January.
Now, he’s set to head out on loan for the upcoming campaign.
And according to the Manchester Evening News, Celtic are LEADING the race to sign him.
The report claims the Hoops are ‘ahead’ of several English Championship clubs in the battle to land the centre-back.
Sky Sports are also reporting that talks are underway between the clubs over the terms of a season-long loan deal.
Simpson-Pusey would follow in the footsteps of the likes of Patrick Roberts and Jason Denayer, who previously had loan spells at Celtic from Man City.
