When students at John Gray High School return to classes on 27 Aug., they will step into a new era of athletics and wellness.
Students will be greeted by a state-of-the-art sports facility, known as Project C, which is the latest phase to be completed in the school’s multi-million-dollar expansion project that has been in development for over 15 years.
The newly completed facility, located at the former Cayman Islands Further Education Centre campus on Walkers Road, represents a significant upgrade to the school’s athletic infrastructure.
The $5.53 million contract for Project C was awarded to local construction firm McAlpine Limited in Sept. 2024.

Students returning to school will now have access to a wide array of top-tier sporting venues, including a full-sized football and cricket field, alongside dedicated courts for basketball, netball and the increasingly popular pickleball.
The Ministry of Education and Training officially received the completed Project C on 31 July.
Minister for Education and Training Rolston Anglin recently toured the facilities. He was joined by senior leadership from the ministry and the Department of Education Services as well as key representatives from McAlpine and architectural firm Chalmers Gibbs, both of which were instrumental in bringing the long-awaited project to fruition.
“These upgrades are designed to enhance student wellness by increasing opportunities for recreation, physical activity and strengthening academic programmes such as physical education,” said a Ministry of Education and Training press release.
