The fifth week of the flag football season saw multiple teams achieve their first victory or suffer their first defeat.
In the men’s non-contact division, the Anklebullies secured their first victory of the season on 9 Aug. with a decisive 29-0 shutout against I-Reign, bringing them into a 1-3 tie with BTA.
This tie between Anklebullies and BTA turns every remaining game for both teams into a must-win in the battle for the final playoff spot.
Key offensive plays from Terry Ballard and Reynaldo Kelly Vernon, along with a controlling defence, were instrumental in the Anklebullies win.
In the same flag football division, the following game saw the Titans handing the previously undefeated Cobras their first loss of the season, winning 20-13.

Taj Haye and Andrew Antonysraj led the aerial attack for the Titans, while the defence, led by Johnathan Allen, made crucial stops, including denying the Cobras on their final possession.
Starting off the women’s division game was I-Reign, who edged out Nelson’s Athletics 12-6 in a close contest.
Maggie Ebanks guided the I-Reign offence with the help of Scimone Campbell and Jennifer Choice, who made key plays.
Nelson’s Athletics, despite the loss, kept the game competitive and made I-Reign earn every yard through their defence, led by Hayleigh Solomon, a young standout continuing her breakout season with another strong performance for her team.
The following game saw the Lynx women extend their winning streak with a 22-6 victory over the Vixens.
Although the Vixens started strong with a touchdown from Kimberley Rivers to Courtney Magnuson, the Lynx’s defence, powered by Shaielle Murray and Sabena Plummer, shut them down in the second half.
On offence, quarterback Erica Bosch of Lynx connected with Vania Cornwall and Christsania Parker for three touchdowns.
To close out the day, the Cobras received a forfeit win of 28-0 against I-Reign, who were unable to field a team in the men’s contact division.
The following matchup in the same division saw the Titans make a statement with a 20-6 victory over the Spartans, avenging their week four tie.
The Titans, led by quarterback Thomas McField, controlled the pace of the game through the ground attack on offence and stingy defence.
A determined Aldene Forbes-Morgan of Spartans managed to break three tackles for a second-half touchdown, but the Titans quickly answered, immediately shutting down the Spartans’ chances of a late rally.
