By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Three weeks into the Premier League of Belize, Napoles FC have emerged as the surprise leaders, defying expectations and captivating fans across the country. With seven points from three matches, they sit alone at the top of the table—unbeaten and unshaken.
Their campaign began with a 2–1 win over Wagiya SC on Wednesday, August 6 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, with Kyle Thomas netting both goals in a confident debut performance. In Week 2, Napoles held defending champions Verdes FC to a 1–1 draw at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, August 9, thanks to a crucial equalizer by Daijon Daniels. Last weekend, they edged Port Layola FC 1–0 to secure their second victory at the Isidoro Beaton. With four goals scored and only two conceded, Napoles have demonstrated tactical discipline and team cohesion.
But Napoles know that early momentum alone won’t carry them through a full season. On Friday, the club moved to strengthen their attack, announcing the signing of two young Colombian forwards—Jhoan Villalba (19) and Cesar Vila Perez (21). Both players are expected to fit seamlessly into the club’s system and could feature in Sunday’s clash against second-place Progresso FC. The club emphasized their intent in a social media post, stating,
“We need help scoring more goals!” the club emphasized their intent in a social media post, and reaffirmed their identity: “We represent the Capital City! We represent Belmopan!”
That sense of purpose is no accident. Before joining the PLB, Napoles competed in the Belmopan First Division, where they built not only tactical discipline but also deep grassroots support. Their organizational strength and community ties have translated into a confident, cohesive squad that now leads the nation’s top league.
This weekend, they face their toughest test yet: a road match against second-place Progresso FC in Orange Walk. A win would solidify their lead and send a clear message to the rest of the league.

Napoles may have entered the season with little fanfare, but their results speak volumes. Their rise is no fluke—grounded in years of preparation and community investment. That local backing and internal structure are now fueling their early PLB success.
If they stay the course, their debut campaign could become one of the most memorable in recent PLB history.
