CELTIC’S hopes of a stunning deadline day windfall bit the dust when Oh Hyeon-gyu’s money-spinning £24m move collapsed at the last.
The Hoops negotiated a sell-on when they did the deal which sent the Korean international to Genk, and this looked likely to pay huge dividends when the striker was mooted for a blockbusting move to the German giants.
Oh is now 24 and he’s coming off a decent season in Belgium, where he scored seven times in 27 appearances as Genk topped the regular season table.
And that seemed enough to persuade Stuttgart to splash the cash on the star, having sold Nick Woltemade to Newcastle United last week.
But a combination of failed medical tests and some late haggling over the fee meant the deal collapsed on deadline day – and of course that means no sell-on for the Hoops.
It pretty much put the tin lid on a frustrating transfer deadline day for the Hoops who also saw potential moves for Kasper Dolberg and David Datro Fofana com to nothing.

The injury in question is thought to date back to a cruciate knee injurysustained in 2016 during Oh’s time with Suwon Samsung‘s youth team.
While it didn’t preclude him joining Celtic under Ange Postecoglou then his 2024 transfer to Genk, Stuttgart appear to have taken a different view.
Celtic, meanwhile, face a race against time to snap up Kelechi Iheanacho – with the deadline to register players for the Europa League coming TONIGHT.
The Hoops suffered a frustration as they were unable to bring in a striker to replace Adam Idah on deadline day.
Brendan Rodgers has previously worked with the player, who is available on a free transfer.
But it’s NOT true to say the Hoops are in no rush to get the signing done, because he won’t be eligible to play in the club’s Europa League matches if they can’t get him to sign on the dotted line by 11pm TONIGHT.
