KASPER DOLBERG’S agent has revealed why the striker chose Ajax over Celtic.
The 27-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year-deal to return the Amsterdam club on Tuesday from Anderlecht.
SunSport first told you of Celtic’s interest in Dolberg, with Brendan Rodgers desperate to land a striker before the window shut.
Celtic were ready to do a deal worth in excess of £8million for the Danish striker.
But Ajax entered the race for him on deadline day when it looked as though they were going to lose Brian Brobbey to Sunderland.
After sealing the deal, Dolberg’s agent Dominic Vieira told Dutch football podcast FC Afkicken the opportunity to return to Ajax was too good to turn down.
He said: “The moment we knew we had a chance for Ajax, it just felt like it was right.
“When it was real, it was probably before the deal went through and even then I didn’t think it was going to be possible because of time maybe finances.
“Nobody knew at that point what Brobbey was going to do.
“He [Kasper] got a good sensation over the last 36 hours, so happy so appreciative of the efforts everybody has made.
“A big thank you to Anderlecht, he had a promise with the club he could leave for a certain price.
“They could have done something earlier in the window but the right project, place and club was not there.
“A lot of respect to Anderlecht who honoured their word with him and that’s because he is a good guy, a professional guy.”
Dolberg came through at Ajax scoring 45 goals in 119 games before a £17m move to Nice.
He had loan spells at Sevilla and Hoffenheim before a permanent move to Anderlecht.
The prolific striker netted 44 goals in 96 games for Belgian side before his move to Ajax.
Celtic also attempted to sign Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana but he opted for a loan move to Championship side Charlton before the deal fell through.
It meant a last-minute scramble to find a striker after letting Adam Idah join Swansea in a deal upwards of £6m.
SunSport told you of their interest in Kelechi Iheanacho on the night of the transfer deadline just hours before he was released from Sevilla.
Their search for a striker carried on into the day after the window shut, having held talks with free agents Patrick Bamford, Emmanuel Dennis and Iheanacho.

Celtic announced they signed Iheanacho on Tuesday just before the deadline to register their Europa League squad.
That has done little to quell the anger of supporters at the perceived lack of transfer activity this summer, with fans’ groups writing an open letter to the board demanding answers.
