Denmark vs Scotland preview
It’s the start of our latest pursuit of the World Cup.
And with it being bigger and better than ever before, there’s no better time to end nearly three decades of hurt and FOMO (fear of missing out).
It begins on Friday with a tricky opening contest away to Denmark, who currently sit 21st in the FIFA world rankings.
That was a similar position as Scotland occupied in 2014 but it’s been a mainly downward trend since then and now sit in 47th place.
The Nations League campaign finished with a bit of optimism with a draw against Portugal and wins over Croatia and Poland.
Then a relegation play-off win in Greece heightened that before a 3-0 drubbing at home. Defeat at home to Iceland in a friendly followed before a win in Liechtenstein.
So plenty to prove heading into this new qualification campaign with the Danes, Belarus and Greece to come.
Decisions for the manager too with no established goalkeeper in the squad, a lack of real quality options in defence and even at left back, with Andy Robertson not getting a kick for Liverpool and Kieran Tierney’s withdrawal from the squad after an underwhelming return to Celtic thus far.
The midfield options are almost too strong meaning some top operators won’t be involved much and the big hope is Kieron Bowie can be the spearhead of the attack for years to come.
Denmark have won only one of their last five competitive games though so there isn’t much to fear heading there.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like the defenders and goalkeepers picked will be able to fill the Tartan Army with too much confidence.
The last three Scotland games have brought 11 goals in total, with the Danes games accumulating 16 goals in their last four games.
