WHEN Rangers signed defender Derek Cornelius on transfer deadline day few fans were probably aware of his dead ball prowess.
But the 27-year-old showed exactly what he is capable of on international duty with Canada on Tuesday night, with a stunning 25-yard free kick against Wales.
The centre-back had reportedly been practising free kicks in training before the friendly, and it certainly paid off as he produced a moment of brilliance on the global stage.
Cornelius, stepped up, 25 yards out and delivered a wicked left-foot effort over the wall and into the top corner, giving the Wales goalkeeper Adam Davies absolutely no chance.
“As good a free kick you’ll see anywhere in the world from Derek Cornelius,” beamed the co-commentator on One Soccer.
Cornelius arrived at Rangers on the final day of the transfer window on a season-long loan from Ligue 1 side Marseille.

The Gers have the option to make the deal permanent next summer and, if he continues to produce that kind of quality in a Light Blues jersey, he’ll have every chance of extending his stay in Glasgow.
Rangers fans were delighted on social media as the video of his free kick went viral.
One fan said: “Looks like we have a serious centre-back on our hands.”
Another supporter added: “Take a bow Derek Cornelius. We finally have another option other than Tav taking everything.”
A third said: “Can’t wait to see him in the Blue jersey this season.”
Cornelius joins Russell Martin’s side after falling out of favour at Marseille.
He made 23 appearances for the Ligue 1 side last season following a move from Malmo.
After signing for Rangers, Cornelius said: “”I am excited to be here, and I am excited to finally get going.
“What excited me is that it is such a massive club with such a passionate fanbase.
“That is always exciting playing in front of fans that are going to support you and really push you over the edge.
“It is always something that every footballer looks forward to, so I am looking forward to playing in front of these supporters, giving it my all and winning a lot of matches.”
