The netball scene in Cayman continues to grow, with the official launch of the Venus Netball Club bringing new energy to the sport.
The club, founded and managed by Bob McBean, officially launched on 19 June.
McBean said that the idea had been in the works from around the time of the Women’s Netball League final hosted on 7 June.
“It took time, planning, and lots of dedication to put everything together, [including] reaching [out] to the ladies, building the right team, organising resources, and laying a strong foundation for sustainability,” McBean said.
He described the launch as “a special milestone because it marked the beginning of turning a dream into reality”.
McBean said his personal inspiration came from his wife Sharlene McBean’s deep passion for the sport.
“She has always loved netball and wanted to create more opportunities for others to experience the same joy, discipline and teamwork it brings. Seeing how much she poured into the game made me want to build a space where that passion could be shared with the community,” he said.
McBean is joined by head coach Milton Clark, assistant manager Cynthia Collington, treasurer Melissa Reynolds, and his wife who serves as the club’s secretary.
Two teams, with plans for more
The club currently has two adult teams, an A and B team, but McBean said they have plans to form a youth and men’s team in the future.

“We [want] to ensure that players of different ages and skill levels [can] find a home in the club,” McBean said.
The club’s first appearance occurred during the Cayman Islands Netball Association’s Cash-O-Rama event on 25 July where they competed and won their first game against local team ZIM-KY.
In its first year, he said the club’s main goals are “to build a strong sense of community, establish a solid training programme, and get our players confident in their skills”.
“We also want to start competing in local tournaments, while making sure every member feels supported, valued and motivated to grow, both on and off the court,” he added.
McBean said they are set to compete in the Cayman Islands Netball Association’s 2026 Women’s Netball League.
Anyone interested in getting involved can email [email protected] or meet the club at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex courts on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30pm.
