The 2025 Netball World Youth Cup will be held in Gibraltar from the 19th to the 28th of September. This is the pinnacle event for netballers 21 and under. It will involve 20 teams from world netball’s five Regions. The tournament takes place in two venues – the Tercentenary Sports Hall and Europa Sports Park. The Opening Ceremony takes place on September 19, then from September 20, it’s nine straight days of great netball action.
There was no event in 2021, due to Covid. As a result, New Zealand is the defending champion from 2017. There have been eight Netball World Youth Cup tournaments staged so far, with Australia and New Zealand winning four times each. They will both be favoured to do well again, but countries such as England, Jamaica, and South Africa will be looking to challenge.
Fiji were surprise packets in 2017, finishing fourth, while one of the highlights of the whole event was Botswana’s shock 48-46 defeat of Jamaica. Can we see a similar upset result here? Many top line international players have come from the NWYC since it began in 1988. In 2017, the player of the tournament was Jamie-Lee Price of Australia, while Kelly Jackson was one of the stars for New Zealand.
We will keep you updated with results during the tournament on this page, and also on the Netball Scoop social media accounts. On our podcast The Sporting Scoop, Georgia Doyle and Tobey Keddy have been previewing the tournament. Check out The Sporting Scoop on Spotify and YouTube. And here is Tobey’s article on Kiwi shooter Amelia Walmsley.
HOW TO WATCH
