AN EFL star has been banned for five months after admitting betting offences.
Walsall player Jamie Jellis placed 2,248 bets on football matches between 30 April 2019 and 04 July 2023.
He has admitted the charge and has been hit with a fine and five-month ban, suspended for 12 months.
An FA statement: “An independent Regulatory Commission has sanctioned Walsall’s Jamie Jellis for misconduct in relation to breaches of The FA’s betting rules.
“It was alleged that the midfielder breached FA Rule E1(b) by placing 2,248 bets on football matches between 30 April 2019 and 04 July 2023, and he subsequently admitted the charge.
“The Regulatory Commission imposed a five-month suspension from all football and football-related activity, which is suspended for 12 months, a £1,200 fine and warning after a hearing.”
Walsall responded to the judgement with a short statement.
It reads: “We would like to thank the PFA for their support of Jamie and the club during this process.
“The club will make no further comment on this matter.”
The midfielder was charged with breaching betting rules in July, with all the bets being staked prior to his move to Walsall.
Two other EFL players were charged with betting offences in the summer, including Notts County player Lewis Macari, grandson of Manchester United legend Lou.
AFC Wimbledon star Osman Foyo was also stung by the FA over alleged offences committed between October 2023 and March 2025.
