Horse racing tips: ‘He’ll relish the ground and this race’ – Templegate’s monster 18-1 NAP at Ayr on Saturday

Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Pinterest WhatsApp Copy Link

TEMPLEGATE takes on a busy Saturday of racing confident of unleashing hell on the bookies.

Back a horse by clicking their odds below.

JUBILEE WALK (3.35 Ayr, nap)

He loves a big field as he showed when going mighty close at Ascot last time for trainer James Ferguson. The handicapper has left his mark alone and these conditions should be ideal.

ALMERIC (1.50 Ayr, nb)

He can take another step up the ladder. Andrew Balding’s colt oozed class when making the leap from maiden to Listed at Newmarket in the spring, travelling sweetly before putting the race to bed in style. The extra yardage is right up his street and soft suits.

DEFIANCE (2.40 Newbury, treble)

He has been knocking on the door and looks primed to strike. Roger Varian’s gelding ran a fine third in a hot 1m2f contest at Goodwood before backing it up with another solid effort at Hamilton. Back on slightly easier ground, he can take this under William Buick.

Templegate’s TV verdicts

AYR

1.15

NORTHERN EXPRESS has run well in hot races this season and this looks a good winning chance.

Michael Dods’ seasoned campaigner ran a lot better than fifth suggests at York last time.

He travelled well and stuck on gamely, suggesting he’s still very much capable off his current mark.

Proven on all ground and a course winner, he looks primed to strike with conditions to suit.

Khafiz is unexposed and his Doncaster win still reads well. He’s a big threat if putting his modest Deauville run behind him.

Duke’s Command arrives in flying form after a smooth Haydock success and is clearly thriving at this sort of level.

Theoryofeverything, a course-and-distance winner in July, has lost his way a little but a return to Ayr could spark him back to life.

Impartiality travels strongly and his York run is easy to excuse, while Naepoint shaped with promise at Southwell after a break and looks capable of hitting the frame.

1.50

ALMERIC can take another step up the ladder.

Andrew Balding’s colt oozed class when making the leap from maiden to Listed at Newmarket in the spring, travelling sweetly before putting the race to bed in style.

The extra yardage is right up his street and soft suits. His absense is a worry but it means he comes here fresh.

Caviar Heights has chased home classy sorts in Listed company this summer and won’t make life easy.

King’s Gambit has hinted at better with a step back up in trip and could bounce back, while old warrior Certain Lad is always dangerous if allowed his own way up front.

Liberty Lane has struck at this level and can’t be ignored.

2.25

BINHAREER looks solid in the Silver Cup.

William Haggas’s improver bolted up here in July and has since run huge races at Newmarket and Ascot.

Proven on soft ground and clearly still on a workable mark, he looks primed to strike again. Nariko is thriving after back-to-back wins and will handle conditions.

Aberama Gold is a standing dish at this meeting and his recent runs suggest he’s still well handicapped.

Far Above Dream has taken big steps forward with wins at Bath and Goodwood last time and shouldn’t be underestimated.

Candy shaped better than the bare result when fourth at Ascot and is a course-and-distance scorer.

Silky Wilkie returned with a solid York third and has the class to get involved.

3.00

LIGHTNING POLKA looked a cut above on debut at Haydock, quickening clear in the style of a high-class filly and shaping as though 6f on this ground will suit perfectly.

She is bred to progress and has the profile of one ready to strike at Group level.

Argentine Tango brings the best established form, with Listed and Group runs that mark her as a serious player.

Dandana won her first two starts before a strong fourth in the Lowther. That makes her a big threat with more to come.

Coming Attraction is unbeaten after two dominant 6f wins and looks another filly on the upgrade.

India Love has also done everything right so far, but her sights are raised here.

Catching The Moon impressed at Beverley and should progress with stamina assured.

3.35

CELEBRATE the Jubilee in the £180,000 Ayr Gold Cup.

JUBILEE WALK loves a big field as he showed when going mighty close at Ascot last time for trainer James Ferguson. The handicapper has left his mark alone and these conditions should be ideal.

Northern Ticker got the better of a few of these on the Knavesmire last time and could be better than a handicapper in time. He has a 5lb penalty for that win which makes him a major threat.

Read my full guide to the field, ratings for each horse and 1-2-3 prediction.

NEWBURY

1.30

COVER UP clocked a big personal best when winning at Ascot last time and can make the breakthrough at Group level.

He travelled smoothly in that strongly run 5f contest and asserted late on, with the form already working out.

That performance came off a career-high mark and he likes it soft.

William Buick is back on board and the Crisford yard continues in good form.

Rumstar is a proven Group 3 performer after fine efforts in the Palace House and Nunthorpe, while Shagraan impressed when bounding clear in a listed Beverley sprint and is a threat.

Balmoral Lady would come right into it if the rain continues.

Montassib and Rage Of Bamby have Group 1 form and are respected in a wide-open contest.

2.05

MAJESTIC WARRIOR shaped with promise in the Ebor at York, travelling smoothly before fading only late on, and he can take advantage of this slightly easier assignment.

James Tate’s stayer had earlier looked well above handicap grade when slamming useful rivals by over four lengths at Thirsk in the spring and won’t mind the ground.

Stablemate Dramatic Star ran a screamer when second in the Old Borough Cup at Haydock and looks sure to be involved again if in the same heart.

Beylerbeyi has been thriving for Ian Williams, winning three before a close second at Doncaster and he’ll come late.

Stressfree has been knocking on the door in good company and is another to note.

2.40

DEFIANCE has been knocking on the door and looks primed to strike.

Roger Varian’s gelding ran a fine third in a hot 1m2f contest at Goodwood before backing it up with another solid effort at Hamilton.

Back on slightly easier ground, he can take this under William Buick.

Almosh’her shaped better than the bare result in the Ebor and is a live player back down in trip.

Theory Of Tides is lightly raced for powerful connections and should strip fitter for his York return, while three-year-old Serenity Blue still has untapped potential and cannot be ignored despite a blip at Goodwood.

Dante’s Lad went close at York and is another right in the mix.

3.15

INTO THE SKY made a spectacular impression when spreadeagling a big-field maiden here last month, storming clear by over seven lengths in a style rarely seen from a debutant.

That demolition suggested a colt of genuine Group potential, and this offers the perfect chance to confirm it.

Pat Cosgrave takes over on board and the step into deeper waters looks well within his compass.

We know he likes it here and there’s a lot more to come.

Rock On Thunder brings Gimcrack second form that sets a solid standard, while hat-trick seeker Words Of Truth for Charlie Appleby looks the obvious danger with his form working out well.

Flying Comet arrives on the back of two battling wins and won’t go down without a fight, while Sands Of Spain and Watcha Snoop are improving types with each-way claims.
