Veteran draughts player Jack Matthew joined fellow seasoned campaigner Bernard “King Premier” Willock in the winners column for the Cool & Smooth sponsored Invitational Draught Tournament after capturing the Seniors Division of the competition following the final round of games at the Gray’s Green Community Centre Basketball Court on Thursday night.
Matthew’s triumph came despite a 9-0 loss to Anthony “Tony” Gomes in the night’s opening clash. He rebounded to record a 9-0 victory over Stevenson “Smoothie” Vital before rallying to a 4-4 tie with Tion Grant. In the other game contested, Gomes had the better of Amakusa Jeremiah by a 7-1 margin.
Jeremiah finished second in the Seniors Division while Vital was third. Matthew was also adjudged the most improved player of the tournament.
Willock, unbeaten in the tournament, had previously captured the Masters Division with Gomes finishing second and St. Clair Josiah in third.
