ENGLISH Premier League legend Alan Shearer reckons Steven Gerrard would fancy his chances of bringing success back to Rangers because ‘Celtic aren’t that great’.
The England and Liverpool legend is the odds-on favourite to be Russell Martin‘s successor at Ibrox and is due to hold talks with club chiefs on Thursday.

It would be a sensational return for the 45-year-old, who steered Rangers to the Premiership title in 2021, preventing Celtic from winning a historic ten in a row.
He left Ibrox shortly after to join Aston Villa in the Premier League in November but was sacked less than a year later.
The former midfielder then moved to Saudi Arabia to manage Al-Ettifaq but left at the start of this year by mutual consent after 18 months in charge.
Gerrard, who has been out of management since, is believed to have held talks with Rangers in the summer before Martin landed the Ibrox hotseat.

But he revealed he feels he has “unfinished business” in management and said Rangers suited him “to a tee” in a podcast with Rio Ferdinand on Tuesday.
Shearer, who was spotted taking in an Old Firm game in January this year, doesn’t see why Gerrard can’t replicate his success there again if he does get the job particularly when their fierce rivals aren’t as strong.
But there could be a couple of hurdles to overcome first.
He told Betfair: I don’t know Steven’s tax situation with him being back in the UK and he can only answer that.
“There is that ‘never go back’ saying but if he wants to get back to management, he knows what it’s like up there, he’s done it and been successful before.
“He’s a huge name in football.
“I don’t think Celtic are that great either.
“Hearts are top of the SPFL at the moment so that tells you that Celtic aren’t a great team either.
“Steven, or whoever goes into that role may fancy their chances and say it’s worth the opportunity and worth going up there to compete. Rangers are miles off it at the minute and it’s no surprise that Russell lost his job.
“The fans were going mad up there and it’s not nice to see because of the human behind it and at the end of it.
“That’s what you have to think of but you also know the score when you go into management – if you don’t win games, you’ll get sacked.
“The Rangers job will be a brilliant one for whoever takes over.”
