RANGERS legend Ally McCoist was left stunned when the big news broke on Saturday night.
The Ibrox icon couldn’t believe it when Steven Gerrard pulled out of the race to become the next Rangers manager.

The Rangers hierarchy have since turned their attention elsewhere and are speaking to several other candidates, with Danny Rohl the frontrunner after talks with Gerrard collapsed.
SunSport understands Rohl already has his backroom team lined up and is planning to bring a former Rangers player with him to win over supporters if he gets appointed.
That’s a move that would sit well with McCoist as he believes getting someone in the door who “gets it” should the first priority.
He has urged the Rangers board to either appoint someone who understands what it takes to be a success in Glasgow – or bring in a coach who ensures the message gets across to the boss into the dugout.

There are two men who tick both boxes for McCoist.
And both are currently managing a Scottish Premiership club.
The Rangers legend has urged his former club to make a move for Hearts boss Derek McInnes or St Mirren gaffer Stephen Robinson.
Neither Hearts nor St Mirren have received an approach from the Light Blues as things stand.
But reacting to a caller who phoned in to talkSPORT to suggest both names, McCoist replied: “I wouldn’t disagree with that. There’s nobody in Scotland who knows the Scottish game better than Derek.
“The job Stephen Robinson has done at St Mirren has been remarkable.
“I think the Rangers fans clearly want a good coach and a good manager in, but I think just as important, they need someone in the club that gets it.
“It doesn’t need to the manager, but they need someone within the club that knows what it’s about. I don’t think we’ve got that.
“I’m talking about people Rangers fans can relate to.
“They must know how important it is to get results and know the values of the club off the park.
“I think we need a good coach and manager to take us forward, but Rangers fans need a boost with someone who gets it.”
