IT’S a week since Steven Gerrard dropped a bombshell by withdrawing from the process to become the next Rangers manager.
Seven days on, the former Gers boss was back on the football pitch.


Gerrard, 45, looked likely to make a stunning return to Rangers as Russell Martin‘s replacement.
The Light Blues axed Martin a fortnight ago amid an ongoing horror run of results and four days later, Gerrard flew into the UK for talks with Ibrox supremos.
Discussions with the Gers’ US chief Andrew Cavenagh were held and the noises were that those talks were progressing well.
However, last Saturday night, came the dramatic turn of events.

It emerged that Gerrard had pulled out of the running to be the next Gers boss, with timing understood to be at the heart of that decision.
It left Rangers chiefs scrambling.
Kevin Muscat has since emerged as the frontrunner to take charge but he’s currently in charge of Shanghai Port in China and in the midst of a title race.
SunSport exclusively revealed that former Ibrox defender Muscat was a serious candidate on Monday.
Under-19s boss Steven Smith was the man in charge in the dugout for Saturday’s clash with Dundee United, another game that ended in disappointment for the Gers who were held to a 2-2 draw.
A few days after his withdrawal from the process, Gerrard was spotted back in Bahrain.
He’s been living in the country since becoming boss of Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq in July 2023, a role he left at the beginning of this year.
Now, a week on from from rejecting Rangers, Gerrard has been back on the football pitch.
A Liverpool Legends team faced a Chelsea side last weekend and eyebrows were raised when Gerrard didn’t take part with many punters reckoning it was due to the Rangers situation.
An XI of Liverpool greats was once again in action in Hong Kong this Saturday – and this time Gerrard WAS involved.
He captained the Reds side against a Man Utd legends side skippered by his former England teammate Rio Ferdinand.
It was, of course, an interview with Ferdinand that began to set tongues wagging regarding a sensational Ibrox return for Gerrard.

Gerrard took to the pitch in Hong Kong alongside the likes of Sami Hyypia, Luis Garcia and John Arne Riise.
And he captained his side to victory, with the Liverpool side coming out on top with a 4-2 win.
