DANNY ROHL has been appointed the new Rangers head coach with the club’s search for a boss FINALLY at an end.
The 36-year old German has landed the role as Russell Martin‘s successor.
Rangers supremo Andrew Cavenagh made the call to dismiss Martin, 39, after just four months in charge.
The former Southampton boss, appointed in June, had overseen a disastrous start to the season that saw him win just five of his 17 matches in charge.
The trigger was pulled on Martin’s reign just hours after a 1-1 draw with Falkirk, a result that left the Gers languishing in eighth in the Scottish Premiership table having won just once in seven league games.
US health insurance tycoon Cavenagh jetted into the UK in the aftermath of Martin’s dismissal and has been leading the search for a new boss alongside 49ers Enterprises chief and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe.

And that search has led them to Danny Rohl after a two-week search that took several wild twists and turns.
The Ibrox club have now confirmed his appointment on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Rohl told the club’s website: “It is a huge privilege to be taking on the role of Head Coach at such an incredible club, recognised around the world.
“I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for in four competitions, and my staff and I will give it everything to reward the supporters and the club.
“The expectations here are clear. The fans want to see results now – my mentality and experience is to think in exactly the same way and I have belief in the players that we can achieve this.
“We have no time to waste, we start straight away. I respect that trust is earned and understand we have to give the supporters confidence in what we are doing by showing it on the pitch from the start.
“The expectations are huge and I love this challenge because I set high standards for myself and the team too.
“Rangers is built on a tradition of hard work, unity and success – that is exactly what you will get from me and what I want my team to represent for all of you.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the squad and getting down to work ahead of Thursday’s game away to Brann.”
Chairman Cavenagh said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Danny to Rangers, an ambitious coach who shares the club’s hunger for progress and success. His experience at elite level, in high pressure environments, makes him a strong fit for what we expect here.
“We know the past few months have been challenging, but our focus has always been on getting the right person, who is ready to immediately embrace this football club and the demands that come with it.
“Danny impressed us with his vision, his character, and his understanding of what Rangers stands for. We believe he can help restore pride, momentum, and ultimately success.”
Vice Chairman Paraag Marathe said: “This has been a thorough process to ensure we identified the right person to lead the club forward.
“Danny clearly has tactical intelligence and a hunger to match the ambitions of Rangers. With Danny at the helm, we intend to compete through every minute on the pitch in all competitions.”
Chief Executive Patrick Stewart said: “Danny brings real conviction, clarity and leadership to the role.
“We know results this season have fallen below our expectations, but with Danny and his staff in place, we’re confident we can get this season back on track.
“It’s now our job to give him every support possible to move the club forward quickly and decisively.”
Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell added: “Danny has the qualities required to succeed here, allied with being an exceptional coach.
“He has worked in some of the most demanding football environments in the world, where winning is the only expectation, and we believe that background has prepared him for Rangers.
“His job will be to get the best out of the players and build a team that, first and foremost, wins, as we all target success this season.”
Rohl coached at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich and the Germany national team before landing his first managerial gig in October 2023 with Sheffield Wednesday.
He became popular with the Wednesday fans and earned plaudits for the job done despite the club being in crisis for much of his tenure.
Wednesday finished 12th under Rohl’s stewardship last season despite major financial issues.
He left the club just two weeks before the start of the season as they plunged deeper into crisis.
Rohl had been linked with the Rangers job prior to Martin’s appointment earlier in the year and he was also in the frame for several other jobs in England.
Now, he’s become the man tasked with turning around the Gers’ fortunes.
Steven Gerrard had emerged as the clear front-runner to replace Martin.
The 45-year old flew in to London for talks with Gers chiefs and looked set to make a stunning return to Ibrox four years after quitting as boss the firs time around.
But he dramatically pulled out of the running over a week ago after a couple of days of talks.
SunSport understands Gerrard ultimately felt the timing wasn’t right to make that incredible return to Rangers.
That paved the way for Rohl who became the favourite after Gerrard’s exit from the process.
However, SunSport then exclusively revealed last Monday that Kevin Muscat had emerged as a serious candidate.
And as the week went on, it looked like the former Gers defender was going to be the man finally appointed to the role.
As things moved with Muscat, Rohl himself then dramatically pulled out of the running.
That cleared the decks for Muscat only for a sensational turn of events on Sunday.
We told you how the deal to appoint the 52-year old, a former Gers player, was OFF.
