MICHAEL OWEN was left red-faced on Sunday after his prediction that Liverpool “are going to win” against Manchester United came back to bite him.
The Reds were beaten 2-1 by bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield as they suffered four losses in a row.
Bryan Mbeumo had put the Red Devils ahead in the opening minutes before Cody Gakpo levelled the scores in the second half.
Harry Maguire then popped up with the winner in the 84th minute to send Ruben Amorim‘s men into dreamland and leave Arne Slot‘s side trailing in the title race.
Owen, who played for both teams, was filmed in a watchalong during the game alongside ex-United team-mate Michael Carrick.
Both ex-players went through mixed emotions during the entertaining clash as they sat down next to each other.

Owen supported his boyhood side Liverpool, while Carrick was cheering for United – the club he played 464 times for.
Carrick was delighted to see Mbeumo net so early in the game as he cried out: “That’s how you start lads,” with Owen looking dejected.
The former England striker then stood up to celebrate as Gakpo’s goal was given onside and said: “I’ll tell you what, Liverpool are going to win.”
But then when Maguire buried his header there were muted celebrations from Carrick in front of a stunned Owen.

Carrick simply muttered “sorry” to his former team-mate as Owen said: “My word.”
United couldn’t help but poke fun at Owen over the result – as they questioned why he didn’t support the club despite winning a Premier League medal at Old Trafford.
One wrote on X: “Owen must have forgotten we gave him a chance whenever no one else looked near him and then gave him a Premier League trophy.”
Another said: “Michael Owen should show some respect to the team that got him a PL title.”
A third post read: “If any can take back his PL medal [he] won with us, then that would be really helpful.”
Others were left confused why Carrick didn’t show more passion for the winning goal, with one saying: “How the heck Carrick can stay calm after that Maguire goal.”
But another argued: “Carrick kinda knew the job wasn’t done…. Cos why wasn’t he celebrating.”
