The Cayman Motoring Federation plans to launch a STEM Racing Programme in Cayman Brac, which will enable students to build and race their own miniature F1-style cars.
The initiative, at the Layman E. Scott Sr. High School, will provide the school with its very own racing rollout 20-metre track, a CNC MCR 100 machine which will be used to design the models, and a complete set of components, like blocks, axles and wheels.
The federation says the equipment will mean students can design and build the miniature cars and participate in the internationally recognised STEM education programme.
The programme was introduced to schools in Grand Cayman in 2024, but this is the first time students on Cayman Brac will have access to the initiative.
Jane Scaletta, president of the Cayman Motoring Federation, said the organisation was “delighted” to bring the programme to the Cayman Islands.
“This initiative opens up exciting new pathways in engineering and innovation for our students, giving them access to world-class design tools, such as Autodesk Fusion used by professional engineers around the world,” she said.
“By empowering young Caymanians to explore design, aerodynamics and technology in a hands-on environments in an exciting programme that brings motorsports to classrooms, we’re helping shape the next generation of engineers, innovators, and motorsport professionals right here at home.”
An official ceremony to launched the programme will be held at the school at 10am on Tuesday, 11 Nov., followed by a demonstration of the new equipment.
