By Rubén Morales Iglesias: ⚽🇧🇿 As they prepare to defend their turf in the second leg of the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) 2025-2026 Opening Championship semifinals, reigning champions Sagitun GIRLZ are calling on fans across the South to show up in force this Saturday at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence.
Sagitun GIRLZ carry a 4–2 lead into the return leg against Corozal Elite FC, having secured a strong away win last weekend in Corozal. But the team says the job is far from finished — and they’re asking supporters to rally not just for the club, but “for all females in the Mid-South.”
In a passionate social media post, the club reflected on its deep roots in the region:
“The Majestic!! The Michael Ashcroft Stadium! That’s our home! That’s where we grew up playing in six-a-side tournaments, local Female Banana Leagues and now get to represent our community at the highest level of Female Football in Belize!”
The message continued:
“Our players sacrifice so much to be at this level, all we ask for is your support this weekend as we aim to defend our home turf and earn a place in this Opening Season Finals! Come out this Saturday and cheer on… not for us but for all females in the Mid-South!”
The match kicks off at 6:00 pm on Saturday, December 13.
The winners of the home-and-away semifinal between Sagitun GIRLZ and Corozal Elite FC will face the winners of the other semifinal between Napoles FC and Jewel Fury FC, which ended in a 2–2 draw last Sunday in Belmopan.
