FORMER Rangers boss Michael Beale has emerged as the frontrunner for a major new job – just hours after they parted company with their manager.
The club in question is Championship basement strugglers Oxford Utd, who parted company with Gary Rowett only this morning.

But the former Gers and Sunderland boss has become the odds-on favourite to replace one-time Ibrox managerial contender Rowett, who came close to landing the Rangers job prior to the appointment of Pedro Caixinha.
Bookies Bet Victor have him priced up at 1/2 ON to take the role, ahead of Liam Manning (6/1), Lee Grant (8/1) and Karl Robinson (8/1).
Russell Martin also figures on the list – but he’s back at 12/1 – as it appears increasingly like the job could be Beale’s.
He’s been out of work since a brief spell working as Steven Gerrard‘s assistant at Al-Ettifaq out in Saudi Arabia.

Des Buckingham guided the club back to the Championship for the first time since 1999 through the play-offs but Oxford have had a tough start to the season.
They currently sit third from bottom in the table – with Beale having his work cut out to prevent them sliding to relegation.
One man Beale will know well given the Rangers connection is Ben Davies, who is currently on-loan at Oxford from the Ibrox men.
