BROOKS Koepka has quit mega-money LIV Golf.
The five-time major champion will be stepping away from the controversial league which he joined in 2022 on a contract in excess of $100million.
His management team released a statement and explained that spending more time with his family at home is one of the key reasons for his decision.
His decision means he will play no part in the tournament in 2026.
Koepka, who had a year remaining on his LIV contract, vowed to keep fans updated on what comes next after the shock decision, as he becomes the first big-name player to quit the breakaway tournament.
A statement – shared by SI.com – reads: “Brooks Koepka will be stepping away from LIV Golf.
“He is deeply grateful to Yasir Al-Rumayyan (the governor of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, (LIV CEO) Scott O’Neil, and the LIV Golf leadership team, his teammates and the fans.
“Family has always guided Brooks’ decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home.
“Brooks will continue to be a huge supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players continued success.
“Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf and will keep fans updated on what’s ahead.”
Earlier this year Brooks’ wife Jena Sims announced the devastating news that the couple suffered a miscarriage.
She announced the update on Instagram alongside a heartfelt statement.
Posting in October, she explained: “At 16 weeks, we learned that our baby’s heart had stopped beating.
“This is a grief no parent is ever prepared for.
“We are devastated, but remain hopeful to give Crew a sibling one day.
“Too often, these struggles happen in silence. There is still so much work and research needed to better understand and support women’s reproductive health.
“If you’re experiencing or have experienced pregnancy loss or infertility, please know you are not alone.”
She continued: “Lastly, I want to recognise the doctors and nurses who must deliver this kind of heartbreaking news every day.
“It has to be the hardest part of their job, and I’m holding space in my heart for you too.”
Koepka has endured a difficult season on the course, missing the cut in three of the four Majors.
