A RESTAURANT linked to former Rangers hero Hugh Burns is locked in a licensing battle with council bosses.
Hugh’s in Burnside, Lanarkshire, faces claims it is operating without permission from authorities.
A paperwork trail links the popular dining spot with the ex-Ibrox defender and he was pictured at a launch night in 2023.
Locals complained to South Lanarkshire Council about the venue selling alcohol and bosses were warned they needed permission.
They have also been told to stop using an outside area where customers can enjoy food and drinks.
An enforcement notice was handed down in October after officials launched their investigation.

Agents for Hugh’s have gone to the Scottish Government in a bid to fight the council red card.
A neighbour complained about the outside seating area at Hugh’s.
She said: “The proposed use adversely affects neighbouring residents due to increased noise, late-night disturbance, cooking smells and litter.
“The garden is a small green space in an urban area, and its protection is important for residents’ living standards.”
An appeal statement for Hugh’s said: “The use had been previously consented per the local review body (LRB) and had expired due to oversight.
“An extension to the original consent has now been applied for as per the attached confirmation.
“The notice is incomplete as it does not include the plan referenced in the notice.”
Hugh’s have lodged further paperwork with South Lanarkshire Council seeking permission to run the venue and use the outdoor area.
Burns made more than 50 times for Rangers and also had spells at Hearts, Hamilton Accies, Kilmarnock and Ayr.
He then went viral after crying ‘what’s the goalie dain Tom’ during an Old Firm clash as Celtic scored at Ibrox.
Hugh’s were asked for comment.
The council said they could not comment on the ‘formal process’.
A government reporter is expected to give a decision in due course.
