MICHAEL CARRICK left interviewers hanging after Manchester United’s win over Arsenal as he was summoned to see Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Carrick oversaw his second upset victory in as many Premier League appearances as he led the Red Devils to a 3-2 win over the Gunners in North London on Sunday.
United showed heart to come from behind after a Lisandro Martinez own goal, taking a 2-1 lead before apparently having their hearts broken by Mikel Merino’s 83rd minute equaliser.
But a thunderous strike from Matheus Cunha three minutes later handed Carrick’s men all three points, and an emotional wave that the 44-year-old was still riding as he prepared to address the media in the Emirates mixed zone.
But per the reports of former Premier League star-turned-pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft, he was poached by United chief Ratcliffe before he could say a word.
Fjortoft wrote on X: “Was standing at my position waiting for our [Michael] Carrick – interview today.

“Just as I was ready to ask the first question, a representative from Manchester United stopped my preparations and said: – Michael, Sir Jim wants to see!
“So out he went having a chat with him in the tunnel And we got Carrick outside at our table Pitchside, where we could ask him about his ‘meeting.’”
When the Wallsend native did eventually catch up with Fjortoft’s Viaplay, he was asked if he could give any insight on the meeting, saying: “No, not much as you would expect.
“There’s a lot of happy bodies around the camp today and he’s delighted as well. So it was nice to see him.”

It is not surprising that Carrick has attracted the attention of the big names at the club after an immense eight days that saw him stun the top two teams in the Prem table, having seen off rivals Manchester City the Saturday before.
The former United star was handed the reins until the end of the season on an interim basis, but performances like Sunday’s could put him front of the queue for the permanent role.
He said of the match: “Massively proud, I think it was different to last week. They put us under a lot of pressure in different ways,
“To come here and score three goals, and in the manner we did. Going one down and coming back, and then the setback and then to keep going.
“Matheus with a huge moment for us, the boys had to put a lot in today. It was a massive effort and I am really proud of them.”
