BRUCE CARRINGTON has discovered he can grab a historic New York boxing record missed out on by hero Mike Tyson.
The 28-year-old bids for the WBC featherweight world title on Saturday night at the legendary Madison Square Garden arena.

And, when he first learned his milestone bout was at the American boxing Mecca, he swatted up on what his idol and fellow Brooklyn boy had achieved there.
Despite a legendary 57-bout career, Iron Mike only boxed twice at the landmark venue, just nine miles from his infamously brutal birthplace.
And, ahead of his clash with Carlos Castro, SunSport jabbed him with the shock Tyson stat sparked his interest.
“It’s funny that you mentioned Tyson’s lack of fighting in MSG,” he grinned. “It’s crazy.

“I actually did some research and I’m actually going to be the first guy to win a world title from Brownsville in MSG.”
When we joke Carrington is claiming to be a better Brownsville son than the Baddest Man on the Planet, he laughs: “I ain’t saying that whatsoever!” You’re trying to get me in trouble.”
In 59-year-old Tyson’s heyday, Las Vegas and Atlantic City were the main boxing hotbeds, back then Donald Trump would sponsor shows at his hotels on the famous boardwalk.
But – even without the facial tattoo and the recent Jake Paul spectacle – Tyson is still inspiring the locals in the way only a true legend can.

Carrington said: “Mike Tyson can’t walk through Brownsville!
“As soon as people catch wind that Mike is in Brownsville, everyone is running out of their apartments to find him.
“When you watch a guy like Mike Tyson, as old as he is,still be able to gravitate people towards him so much, it’s something to relish.
“He still gets so much love from everybody, from different generations and that just lets you know how much of an icon he really is, he’s still one of the most recognizable faces in the world.”
The world – and Generation Z – was reminded of Tyson’s legacy in 2024 when he cashed in on a laughable celebrity fight with 29-year-old American YouTuber Jake Paul.
And Carrington was honoured to have played a small part in his preparations.
“I’m going to have a little flex here,” he teased.
“He invited me to watch him work-out to get ready for the Jake Paul fight, it was in a private area in the gym and only certain people were allowed in, so it was so dope that I was invited.
“When I was watching him spar and watching him work-out, even as a shell of himself, it was just astonishing.
“To watch him move, watch him slip, watch his power. It made me remember that it was no wonder he was as big as he was in his prime
“I didn’t like how the fight ended but the fact that he was able to get in there and do what he did, just shows you that he’s an incredible human being.
“I seriously love Mike Tyson.”
