Ammo Williams proud to be least flashy US Gen Z boxing star by refusing to copy rivals who FLUSHED cash down toilet

AMMO WILLIAMS is proud to be America’s least flashy Gen Z fighter.

The 29-year-old middleweight southpaw has grown up in the era of wrestling’s Ric Flair, boxing billionaire braggart Floyd Mayweather and MMA fame monster Conor McGregor.

But, despite his 19-1 career flying him first-class around the world and banking Saudi pay days, the Wisconsin man remains firmly grounded.

A product of the same generation that brought us Adrian Broner literally flushing hundreds of dollars down the toilet, the proud USA ace is bucking the trend.

Ahead of his WBC world title shot against Carlos Adames on Saturday, the challenger told SunSport: “That’s not a part of me because that’s never been what I needed to be.

“I want to be an inspirational person or a likable person or somebody who could connect with people.

“I never had to present myself as a better person or somebody who has accumulated more than you. I’ve never enjoyed life from that perspective.

“I never wanted a life from that perspective.

“Even choosing boxing, from the beginning, my idea was to be able to allow people to connect with me, because I deal with the same things they deal with.

“I wouldn’t be recognisable, to my family, if I turned into somebody who is a flashy money guy or whatever.

The Home of Boxing in 2026

There’s a massive year of boxing ahead!

It’s shaping up to be a blockbuster year of action inside the boxing ring.

Tyson Fury is expected to make his return, Conor Benn is closing in on a world title shot and Fabio Wardley will defend his newly won heavyweight crown.

Canelo Alvarez will be hoping to return after his defeat to Terence Crawford and heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk will also need to defend his straps.

Derek Chisora could fight for the 50th and final time and Daniel Dubois is also on the comeback trail.

A whole bunch of British stars could also take a leap into superstardom, with the likes of Moses Itauma, Hamzah Sheeraz and Adam Azim ready to join the very top of the sport.

Up first we have a massive fight with Stateside superstars Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez meeting later this month in Madison Square Garden.

Here’s all the big fights coming up…

“Of course I want to take care of my family. But when people think of me, I don’t ever want the gist to be that it’s about money.

“I want it to be about what you actually feel for me when you’re around me, the genuine nature of myself.

“And that’s what I’ve been able to achieve in my career. So I’m very proud of that.”

Williams can also be proud of his record, his only defeat coming against Brit star Hamzah Sheeraz last year.

The death of his grandfather in the build-up to the bout contributed to a points defeat.

But the birth of little girl Symphony, who rode into New York with him for the Madison Square Garden clash, is another reason for his respectable rebuild, in the era of excuses.

“She is the light of my life,” he beamed to us. And the reason why I’m so proud to bring her to an event like this is because she centralised me.

“It centralised my life, gave me another level of motivation, another level of direction, and my senses are just totally keen on one thing, and that’s becoming somebody that she can look up to and admire.

Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson – all the info

The biggest fight of the year so far!

Teofimo Lopez will defend his WBO super-lightweight belt against Shakur Stevenson THIS WEEKEND.

Lopez is one of boxing’s form fighters and will make the fifth defence of his title against superstar Stevenson, who is bidding to win a title in a fourth weight class.

The mega-fight takes place on Saturday night in what will be a packed Madison Square Garden.

As well as the mouth-watering main event, there will be two other world title fights, with Carlos Adames taking on Austin Williams for the WBC middleweight title and Bruce Carrington facing Carlos Manriquez for the WBC featherweight title.

Budding superstar Keyshawn Davis is also in action, as is heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller.

“That loss was an extremely hard time for me, losing my grandfather, but I have the warrior spirit.”

British boxing fans will have watched the Sheeraz loss and assumed Williams was the latest US export to fall short of his promise and potential.

But he has quietly rebuilt with three solid wins and a reinforced mentality that he believes lands him the green and gold belt.

“You don’t really understand grief while you’re in it,” he said. “You don’t get it.

“There’s a lot of things that happen that you don’t understand, until you accept what has happened.

“I still got into that ring and fought and that’s something I can hang my hat on and say I am proud of.

“I didn’t pull out of that fight. I didn’t pull out of that situation. Before my granddad passed, I called out Hamzah Sheeraz.

“So, no matter what was going on, I still had to go and do that because that was a part of my spirit. I couldn’t have called somebody out and then pulled out for any reason.

“I just had to find my way there and I did.

“Now it’s just a part of history that makes me stronger and it gives me more confidence.”
