A number of Jamaican internationals have been active in the transfer market, securing new professional environments, whether it be short-term loan moves or permanent transfers.
Chief among the transfers from the Reggae Boyz camp is Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards’ loan move to Leicester City.
Richards joined Leicester in the English Football League (EFL) Championship on deadline day for the remainder of the season from Premier League outfit Chelsea.
His agent, Craig Butler, said the move came at the right time for the player, who is seeking to gain senior minutes after playing in Chelsea’s U21 squad.
“Whisper’s U21 games were not enough for a player of his calibre, so we decided to go and look at the market, present Whisper, and several clubs were interested,” Butler explained.
He is not the only Reggae Boy to have made a loan move, with midfielder Karoy Anderson joining EFL League One team, Blackpool, for the remainder of the season.
Anderson has featured 13 times for his parent club, Charlton Athletic, across all competitions this season, with Charlton’s managing director James Rodwell stating a loan move to Blackpool is a positive step in his career development.
“At this stage of his development, we feel that consistent, regular first-team football is exactly what he needs, and this loan move to Blackpool should be an excellent fit for him.”
Jonathan Russel has also been on the move, joining League One club Mansfield Town from Barnsley on loan, while his international midfield partner Kasey Palmer moved to Luton Town, on loan from Hull City.
Veteran defender Mason Holgate has also secured a loan move in the Qatar Stars League.
Holgate, who joined Qatari club Al-Gharafa last summer, will spend the remainder of the season with Al-Sailiya on loan.
Holgate made eight appearances for Al-Gharafa this season before his loan but had spent eight of his last 10 games with the club on the bench.
In permanent transfers, striker Bailey Cadamarteri ended his 11-year stay at Sheffield Wednesday and joined fast-rising Championship club Wrexham.
Wrexham, who earned back-to-back-to-back promotions in the past three seasons are hunting a fourth consecutive promotion as they seek their first-ever appearance in the Premier League.
Norman Campbell has also made a permanent move as he left Danish club Randers to join Japanese top-flight club V-Varen Nagasaki.
Attacker Leon Bailey was also on the move when he was recalled from his loan to Italian club AS Roma to rejoin his parent club, Aston Villa.
In similar fashion, Kaheim Dixon was also recalled from his loan, rejoining Charlton Athletic after spending the first half of the season with Crawley Town.
