The University of North Texas women’s basketball team recorded its biggest comeback of the year on Saturday, February 7, recovering from a 13-point deficit to win 69-66 away to Temple at the Liacouras Centre.
The 6-4 pivot from Canaries accounted for all 13 Mean Green points in the fourth quarter, and recorded back-to-back buckets late to tie and then take the lead. She ended the day with 20 points on just 12 shots, including six of seven from the line, to go with 13 rebounds and a career-high four steals, as part of her 14th double-double of the season.
Despite trailing by 10 at the break, North Texas (13-10, 7-4) bounced back with 41 points over the game’s final 20 minutes to secure the victory. The third quarter proved to be pivotal in UNT’s comeback effort, scoring 28 points and sinking six three-pointers throughout the frame.
Four other North Texas players added at least eight points in Jazzy Owens-Barnett (9), Aysia Proctor (9), Andi Schissler (9), and Chania Price (8). Schissler sank three more triples, improving her to 9-of-14 from deep over the last 3 games, while Price also knocked down her second and third three-pointers of the year.
“We spread the wealth today,” head coach Jason Burton said. “We’ve talked about that before, being a team that can have multiple players score the ball. I think that’s what you saw today. You saw multiple players shoot the ball with confidence, and we’re a much different team.”
