After 180 minutes of football in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), Caribbean Cup champions Mount Pleasant Football Academy and Treasure Beach still have not found a way to separate themselves from each other, and furthermore, the two have not found a way to score.
The two played in a rescheduled JPL game at Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann yesterday with Mount Pleasant facing the opportunity to climb to second in the standings.
The 0-0 result left Mount Pleasant in fourth place on 38 points, while Treasure Beach remain 12th on 22.
League leaders Montego Bay United sit on 46, while Racing United are tied in second on 39 with Portmore United. Racing break the tie with goal difference.
Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore said it was another disappointing result.
“I think we were flat and didn’t play the type of football that Mount Pleasant is accustomed to. The only good thing I think I can speak of in the game is keeping a clean sheet,” said Whitmore.
“We didn’t play like a team who wanted to win, hence the result. I think we diverted from our game model. We just have to get back on the training pitch and get them up and running. Forget about this and look forward to the next one,” added Whitmore.
Meanwhile, Treasure Beach coach Kemar Ricketts acknowledged that it was a difficult game, but was pleased with the team’s performance.
“It was a hard-fought game and we welcome the point. The team did well in the two legs against Mount Pleasant. This is something we want to continue doing and that is, to remain consistent. The character that was showed, it was brilliant,” said Ricketts.
“We’re just trying to get the momentum going forward. Despite not scoring, the team showed discipline and was excellent. They executed the plan really well and what I asked them to do,” added Ricketts.
In the day’s other game, Chapeton Maroons clipped Molynes United 1-0.
