
Two-time champions West Indies exited the International Cricket Council’s ICC Men’s T/20 World Cup, after losing to co-host India by five wickets in Kolkata last Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Asked to bat, West Indies posted 195 for 4 from their 20 overs.
Roston Chase, who opened the innings led with 40; Shai Hope, 32 and Shimron Hetmyer, 27.
The West Indies was pegged back in the middle order as batters failed to kick on from their good starts.
But Jason Holder, 37 not out and Rovan Powell, 34 not out, reignited the West Indies batting.
West Indies bowlers then reduced India to 41 for 2, but Sanju Samson denied all that was thrown at him, to guide his team home.
He struck an unbeaten 97 to see India across the line.
Samson hit 12 fours and four sixes in front of a capacity 67,000 crowd at Eden Gardens. Tilak Varma contributed 27.
Jason Holder scalped 2 for 38 and Shamar Joseph, 2 for 42.
South Africa and New Zealand play at Eden Park on Wednesday, March 4, in the first semi-final, while India opposes England in the other half on March 5, at Wandkede.
The winners of the semi finals meet on Sunday, March 8, in the grand finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
India won the last edition in 2024 staged in the Caribbean and USA.
