Cornwall College will be looking for places in the final of both the ISSA/Burger King Schoolboy Under-14 and Under-16 football competitions this afternoon at St Elizabeth High School.
Cornwall will first take on the ruthless Garvey Maceo High at 2:00 p.m. in an under-14 semi-final before their under-16 counterparts challenge long-time rivals Rusea’s High School.
According to Tevin Applewhaite, coach of Cornwall’s U19s, the rivarly between the two schools plays second fiddle to focusing on the team’s season-long game plan.
“We know that it’s a rival. The old boys speak about it a lot, but going into the game, I don’t want to focus on that or have the youths focus on that. We want to go out there and enjoy ourselves and execute what we have planned,” said Applewhaite.
“We’re not going to change anything. It is the game plan that we’re working with all season, and I think that if we execute that, we should come out victorious,” added Applewhaite.
With both schools having a rich history in schoolboy football, today’s game is expected to bring fireworks.
On Thursday, William Knibb Memorial will face off with Belair High in the second U14 semi-final, while Clarendon College and Glenmuir High face off in the corresponding U16 game on Friday at the Glenmuir playing field.
